About Monika
Hi there— I’m Monika Radojevic, an award-winning poet and writer, performer, freelance creative and facilitator. I was born in London to a Brazilian mother and Montenegrin father, and this melting pot of language, culture and history has influenced my work, particularly my writing.
In 2019, with a single poem, I entered the MerkyBooks New Writers’ Prize for unheard voices. At 23, I became the youngest winner of the prize to date, and have since published a poetry collection called ‘teeth in the back of my neck’, as well as contributed to short story and poetry anthologies. In 2023, MerkyBooks and Penguin Random House bought two of my books, a short story collection entitled ‘a beautiful lack of consequence’ due in 2025, and a novel, ‘strangerland’, due in 2026. I also run a substack, Aphrodisia. Please see the ‘Writing’ section for more information.
My work is always political and rooted in inclusive, intersectional feminism. I believe in a world where minorities communities can and will live free from oppression and violence, and I try to reflect these values in my personal and professional life.
I have spent five years working in communications, press and social media, including two and a half years working as a political campaigner for the Women’s Equality Party. Alongside writing fiction and non-fiction, I currently work in the non-profit sector as well as freelance creative work.
